Why there is a registration step

Microsoft has no downloadable credentials file for an app that talks to OneDrive. Instead, you register SimDrive once in your own Microsoft account — three minutes — and sign in through it. No secret is created and nothing is shared with us.

1. Go to entra.microsoft.com and sign in with the Microsoft account whose OneDrive you want to back up to. A personal account works; so does a work account, subject to your organisation's policy on registering apps.

Register the app

1. Open Applications → App registrations → New registration.
2. Name: SimDrive.
3. Supported account types: for a personal OneDrive, choose the option that includes personal Microsoft accounts; for a work account, the option for your organisation only is enough.
4. Leave Redirect URI empty and click Register.
5. On the Overview page, copy the Application (client) ID.
6. Open Authentication → Advanced settings, set Allow public client flows to Yes, and Save.

Do not create a client secret. SimDrive signs in with a device code, which needs none — and a secret in a desktop app would not be secret.

Sign in from SimDrive

1. Settings → Storage → Connect storage → OneDrive (or the OneDrive tile on Get started).
2. Paste the Application (client) ID. Leave Tenant as "common" for a personal or mixed account; enter your tenant id to restrict it to one organisation.
3. Click Sign in. SimDrive shows a short code and a link.
4. Open the link on any device, sign in to Microsoft, and enter the code. Approve the permissions.
5. Back in SimDrive, the connection shows your account. Click Choose folders to back up.
